  The 'aren't we so blessed' nonsense astounded me, just do a quick Google of Atlanta religious conventions and see how many other faiths are 'blessed' by God (or would that be Satan??) - there's even an interesting article about religious meetings filling a gap in the cities convention economy!

  But that tourism slant.... wow...coke, really? one of the biggest of Big Business? The increase in vile hypocrisy and two faced claptrap is truly wondrous to behold. Evangelising works are apparently on hold, they must be doing such a good job lately in the mute trolley bystander field

  Atlanta has the largest concentration of colleges and universities in all the southern states, not one of which has a motto anything like 'listen,obey and be blessed', I guarantee it. If they put all this energy into enriching the lives of others instead of stifling them..... grrrrr

  Watched 3 season of game of thrones - I want those 25+ hours of my life back

  this is the worst series i've ever watched in my life.

  whenever things are starting to get smooth and good characters seem to gain advantage, the writers just kill them.

  i've wasted 25+ hours of my life watching how the writers make the bad win over the good.. they make you continue watching by planting the seed in your head that "just a few more episodes and everything is gonna be all right", but no, painful death comes upon anyone who is not cruel and perfidious enaugh.

  Hmm, if you have your eyes open to the likely potholes that could develop if you move the relationship forward, I'd say things could work out. I would implore you to wait a couple years before starting a family with her though, you have no idea the cyclical nature of guilt within the organisation with the memorial and assemblies.

  Time and again I've seen ppl leave and then a year or two go by and they're back with a vengeance, followed by another exit/fade and return - its an immense gravitational pull to those who haven't resigned themselves to it not being the means of eternal life. It all depends on her personality and motivations.

  Need advice, really wanna play COD

  well my ps3 is downstairs because i had no idea how good games looked on tvs that weren't older than you are and i've run into a problem.

  my mum doesn't know that i have "bad" games like cod, gta 5, legend of zelda and final fantasy (yeah ik last two aren't that bad but loads of religious stuff and magic) and it's getting harder to keep it a secret.. i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how i should go about this.

  should i just wait a while and slowly introduce the idea to my mum that i play these games or should i just come out and play them and act like it'a nothing?.

  Your mum sounds pretty laid back to have let you game in your room to start with,rest assured that any mum would be concerned about their 15yr old son playing gtav, jw or not! I'd say you should be able to make a case for the other games, but maybe have to put up with old TVs graphics for gta's strip clubs for now :p

  • Anyone having a crisis of faith should be recoiled from in horror and marked forever
  • Those crushed in spirit by the org are lazy and will no doubt taint us all, mark them

  Anyone remember when there was at least talk of how love can transform your life, how to be a decent human being etc? What a SAD schedule of spiritual food I missed there o.O

  Update incoming :)

  Since my first post have come to the conclusion that I very much need to move out soon. Mum's had to have contact with an uber popular JW family which has increased the amount of positive things she has to say about the Org. Not being able to openly point out all their wrongdoings and reason things out with her is one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever known. As she's getting older, her thoughts are turning to everything she hasn't done right in the eyes of her overlords ie. meeting attendance and ministry, even though in her own words - 'how can I go out in field service and draw people into an organisation I can't even bring myself to attend?" I HATE what they're doing to her mind, she's worth 10,000 GB members, curse them!

  In other news - family members have become aware that I'm not going to meetings thanks to our circuits apparent love of congregation swapping and gossiping ugh. Suddenly noticed they were trying to subliminally 'encourage' me in the wonders of The Truth™ by whipping out video of the history of JWs museum in NY and the creation slideshow thing Had to plaster a vague smile on my face and go to a faraway happy place in my mind to save from scoffing at such blatant propaganda.

  They are slowly pulling me out of my live-and-let-live phase and into one that includes plotting their eternal downfall! Really want them to attempt to wheel a Folly Trolly (otherwise known as a literature stand) onto my campus so I can have it removed whilst informing one and all of their despicable stance on higher education.

  Oo, didn’t mean to go off on a rant there hugs to you all!

  for some reason my husband has picked this topic after months of non communication of anything related biblical at all.

  ( he believes he came up with the idea onhis own ( he was raised jw and left as a 18 year old...ugh...right).

  so since this was his topic my own thoughts have been expressed as well.

  I grew up believing this notion was a fact in the bible, but later discovered it's actually taught in My Book of Bible Stories. It's also in the insight books and reasoning book. These all date from late 70s/early 80s but my mum asserts that this was taught before then too.

  As you start to question things, the number of times you realise what you thought was biblical is in fact WT 'reasoning' is unsettling! The appearance of the star led to fulfillment of prophecy by well meaning men who then heeded God's message, not really seeing the devils work here myself.

  Ooo, thanks everybody for such a lovely warm welcome, internet hi fives all round!

  Really appreciate each response, thanks for taking the time to wade through my post ;)

  Clarity: “...are you still living with your parents, and making plans for your further education?” I’m late twenties and still living with parents, we get on well and it enables my savings to grow! :) I’m very fortunate to have found a job that I love with fantastically supportive colleagues who don’t yet know I’ve left the religion. You would all be delighted at the line of work I’m in but I daren’t say for fear of being recognised :(

  OnTheWayOut: yes indeedy the song is exquisitely apt for our situations, so similar to a toxic relationship, thanks for the vid Billy the Ex, oh how I’d like to address the GB in person with that one line… ;D

  Dis-Member: I feel your bitterness towards these people who think that without meeting attendance we’re going to be annihilated and yet aren’t motivated to care for us in even the smallest way! Can only assume they don’t actually believe any of it or are so selfish as to want nothing but their own salvation. Either way… Distance and contemplating alternative world views are the way forward, never act or speak to active JWs out of frustration and anger, it’ll all go to pot.

  Jen1: it’s horrible to feel like you’re in no man’s land, neither a JW or a ‘normal’ person but something inbetween. Hang in there, I’m sure we’ll all figure this out together :)

  Julia Orwell: the awakening process finally made Jeremiah’s words a reality for me “..it proved to be like a burning fire shut up in my bones and I got tired of holding in…” no matter how much you want to go back to ignorance and bliss, once you know, you know. Feeling lied to and abandoned sucks, crying myself to sleep and yelling at God were par for the course at first and then one day realised the world was still turning, life goes on and I should probably get out there and give something back!

  All this support and encouragement is a heady experience, not used to such things lol, looks like I might just be able to tackle whatever madness is yet to come my way… ‘Apostates’ Assemble!
